Underwood Gifted and Talented Elementary’s Magnet application earned us a 2022 Magnet School of Distinction Award. Our school will be recognized and receive the National Magnet School of Distinction Award during an awards ceremony held at Magnet Schools of America’s 39th National Conference. 

Curriculum and Instruction: Students should have received their second quarter reports cards last week. This month they will also receive their mClass universal mid-year Reading results, and 3-5 Star Math. Please contact your child’s teacher for additional information or have a parent conference. Classroom teachers will be providing an opportunity for a conference this quarter.

January 10-14 Underwood Updates

 Families,

I hope that your child(ren)’s first week back at school after winter break was a good one! We got off to a rocky start with the weather. 

Health Guidance

WCPSS continues to require face coverings in the building during the school day, unless an individual is eating or drinking. We continue to use both the cafeteria and alternate eating areas (outside when weather permits). Here is the update health guidance -- https://www.wcpss.net/whentoreturn 

Elective Share/PTA Meeting 

Please join us on Wednesday January 26th from 7:30 - 8:30 to see our amazing students showcase their gifts and talents in our second quarter Elective Share. You and your family can join us  via Google Meet:: https://meet.google.com/gue-dpkd-cds . We will start the performance with a brief update from the PTA and then the students showcase (no live performance from students) will take place. 

Student Devices: 

• This is the time of the year where students get devices (cell phone, ipads, smart watches) and we want to share the Technology Responsible Use Policy and reminder that students are given a laptop (Chromebook) to be used in the classroom. Students are not in need of additional devices. I also want to remind students and families that technology use at school (includes bus rides) is for educational use. 

First in Fitness

-Friday, Jan. 14th: Team Meeting & Permission Slips/ Hard Copy Packets will Go Home. Meeting will take place at 3pm in the gym. If you are absent, then see Ms. Robinson asap.

-Monday, Jan. 31st: Permission Slips Returned to Ms. Robinson & Online Payment for FIF Team T-Shirt Due.

-Monday, Jan. 31st: Team Practice will start in the gym 8:45 am-9:05 am. Students who need to get breakfast will leave at 9:00 am. Practice will take Monday- Thursday leading up to our competition in March.
