Summer Camp Opportunities:

Screen Actor Training Presents:

Back for our fourth straight summer, Screen Actor Training presents Acting Bootcamp and Filmmakers Bootcamp. The classes are designed to be a two-week camp but can be signed up individually as well. Actors prepare for a role in a film. Then in Filmmakers Bootcamp the students write, produce and star in their own movie. I took 6 years of College and Graduate Film school and reduced it down to 5 days. It’s a remarkable experience.

For registration and more info please visit: https://lunespark.com/bootcamps/

At the end of the camps we will have a premiere night where friends and family are welcome to watch the original projects the students have created. Attached is the movie that Filmmaker Bootcamp produced last Summer.

Field Day Updates

 Families,

Field Day is on Friday, May 27th & Rain Date: Tuesday, May 31st. Below is some information for planning purposes for you and your child.

Session, Grades & Time

Session 1: K/3rd/ ECS I: 9:30am -11:00am

Session 2: 1st/4th: 11:30am- 1:00pm

Session 3: 2nd/5th/ECS II: 1:45pm-3:15pm

The emphasis will be on school spirit: PRIDE participation, cooperation, and fun. We want to promote school spirit on field day! Please wear an Underwood T-shirt. Example: Unicorn Trot, First in Fitness, Science Olympiad etc. For this event to go smoothly and for our students to have a successful field day experience, please consider the following:

  • Due to the nature of the activities, there is a great possibility your child will get wet; therefore, they need to wear clothes and running shoes that can get wet. It is also a good idea to send your child with an extra set of clothes and shoes to change into after field day.

  • Flip flops are not appropriate or safe for field day. Crocs and Water shoes are appropriate along with tennis shoes. You may want to have a backup pair of shoes.

  • Students may wear a hat.

  • School staff are not allowed to apply bug spray and/or sunblock to students. If you want your child to have these things, please either apply before they arrive.

  • Consider having your child bring their water bottles to school. PTA is providing a snack after the field day times.

If you have additional questions, please reach out to Ms. Robinson (jrobinson@wcpss.net).

Wishing you well,

Travis Shillings, Principal

May 2nd - 6th

 Families,

I hope that everyone had a good first week back from break and are ready to have a great last week in April! Below are some updates as we end out the school year and prepare for next school year.

Foundation Progress:

ALL SMILES: We're reflecting on a truly magical night with faculty, families and friends of Underwood. We had more than 25 teachers and staff members attend the Night of the Unicorns at Halcyon in downtown Raleigh, thanks in part to our Creativity and Faculty Lounge Sponsor Drs. Barker, Rohner & Hunt - creators of beautiful, healthy smiles! Through in-person and virtual bidding, the Underwood Foundation raised more than $40,000. We greatly appreciate all of our generous sponsors, donors and auction contributors who made this special evening possible. Be sure to watch a video recap of the event and follow the NEW Underwood Foundation Instagram account here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CcxjmTsAh0m.

Yearbooks are in:

All yearbooks have been purchased.  If you get a request from a student/parent, please let them know that all books have been sold.  If a parent thinks that they bought one, please email Mrs. Burton (hburton@wcpss.net) - She has a list and can give them ways to check.

Parent Survey:

We need to hear from YOU!  Panorama Education Survey is a family survey to learn more about you and your child's experiences at Underwood.  Please take 10 minutes to complete THIS SURVEY between now and May 6, 2022.  Your honest feedback is essential as we work to create the best school experience possible!

Planning for Next school Year

Hard to believe, but we are in preparation for next school year and our staffing is determined by the number of students enrolled by the 10th day of school.  If you know that your child or children will not be returning to Underwood for the 2022-2023 school year, please email Mrs. Collins (hcollins@wcpss.net) letting us know.  This is also a requirement by WCPSS for parents to notify the school if you plan on not returning to a Wake County School.

Teacher’s For Next School Year

Feel free to email me (tshillings@wcpss.net) the type of learning environment and instructor that your child does well with as I look at assigning classrooms for next school year. Please don’t provide individual teacher’s names, but characteristics of the type of teacher that he/she/they does well with on a daily basis.
